No, that's not a workaround. Bug appeared again after several hibernate-resume
cycles.
I never seen this bug with xubuntu 15.10, kernel 4.5 from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and latest Intel graphics from
01.org. But it appeared after installing 16.04.

Hi Christofer, I'm using Ubuntu 14.04.1 ans I can still reproduce this
issue. It start flickering after some time and for stopping it I have to
use "sudo xinput set-prop 8 "Device Enabled" 0".
Should I run "apport-collect -p xorg-server 875504" while my screen
flickering or I can just do it right

Xorg itself doesn't crash, gdm-session worker crashes in libhal1.so

I found out, what prevents gdm/Xorg from creating core dump: soft core
limit is set to 0 for these processes.

Problem still persists after today's update.
To be sure I rolled back all xorg-edgers packages to native Lucid versions.
Crashes are still reproduced.
I'll try to obtain backtrace (running gdb from different tty hangs X, so
I need another pc).

This was not kernel bug -- I tested stock kernel and mainline 2.6.33. Both gave
same result.
Mainline 2.6.33 kernel was installed in Ubuntu Karmic (it left after update) --
I had no problems there.

I have HTC Hero connected and using it for pam_usb authentication.
After upgrading to 10.04, each time when I disconnect hero from usb (or
sometimes, when I unmount it's SD card) X server crashes and restarts to login
screen. Logs contain nothing
I confirm this bug on i965 (ASUS P5B-VM m/b), Ubuntu Karmic, mainline
kernels 2.6.32.9, 2.6.33

Mikko, hal is deprecated in 9.10, so it's not a bug anymore. Syndaemon works
now and it doesn't require SHMConfig.
Syndaemon shows correct values set by xinput.
In jaunty I used this script to workaround not working shmconfig:

William, please see bug #355071 and tell, what what have I done wrong
way? Synaptics driver completely ignore all settings from HAL. That is
what bug report about.
I suppose, these bug reports should be marked as 'wontfix', as HAL is
deprecated now and will be discarded from 9.10.
