I am not sure that it's not a jokey problem, please reassign it there if it is.
I was investigating smearing of the screen on oneiric beta, and enabled fglrx
via jokey. It did not affect the problem (must be a compiz problem I suppose),
and I disabled fglrx back via jokey.
I still see this problem with

On maverick with KMS enabled, programs that use video fading effect
are unusably slow, screen updates freeze for seconds with X server
using 100% CPU. Easy way to demonstrate it is to view this slideshow
