Fullscreen windows are tearing
And apparently I solved the mystery. As a desperate attempt I changed
the refresh rate of the from 59.xx Hz to 60 Hz, and Xorg stopped
crashing coming out of suspend. I suggest giving it a try. Note: I do
not know why the screen was initially set to 59.xx Hz.

Hi, some useful hints: on my system, with intel g3100, the screen goes totaly
black if I have firefox open, otherwise it dims and can be restored with the
xgamma trick.
Investigating if other apps makes the system unrecoverable

removing gnome.screensaver resolves the problem.

I have been running nvidia-settings. Once it executes, the problem is
fixed without me doing anything in the program.
I think this is more of a workaround to solve the problem when it
happens - ie. it doesn't actually prevent the problem from happening.

I do-release-upgraded to 64-bit Lucid, and brand new fglrx release
exhibits same symptoms here (Xorg 100% CPU, blank screen, and the
Xorg.log stopping exactly at the same point as the submitter's one), on
a HD5770 w/ 1GB VRAM, and 5 GB of main memory.

The Xorg update in jaunty-proposed isn't working at all.
IMHO we should close this bug, 'cause the ubuntu team isn't interested at
solving it (althought is extremely simple to do).
All in all, we only have to wait 1 more month for karmic

Well, the fix has been released. It consists of two patches, one for the
kernel, the other for the intel driver.
The problem is that the updates hasn't been released and God knows when they'll
release them
By now you have the choice to mess up your system using PPA kernel and driver

Touchpad is disabled in latest (as of today, 2009-07-08) karmic live cd.
There is no evidence of it in lshal or lspci. Manually installing
xserver-xorg-input synaptics and enabling it manually in xorg.conf
doesn't solve the

I went to the ppa, but I see only a karmic repository where is the
jaunty one?

Sorry, the patch in the ppa doesn't work for me (Jaunty 64bit). It didn't set
the mtrr at all. By the way fixmtrr.sh method works.
