I can't test it, obviously.
The rotated zaphod screen, at which the artefacts appear in my case, is only
available with "sna" enabled.
On a side note:
I tried it nevertheless as I forgot about that.
The result was a segfault of the xserver.

thanks for clarification.
I compiled the driver with --with-default-accel=sna and set
both, the rotated and non-rotated screens, to "AccelMethod" "blt".
Now, the rotated screen is _all black_ but the cursor.
So I, somehow, managed to start acroread but do not see anything but the curso
