I have Maverick Beta on a Thinkpad T42 with the same 32mb Radeon 7500
Mobility as described in this bug report with KMS and Compiz enabled and
am currently unable to reproduce this bug.
Can anyone confirm this problem still exists?

Alvaro, your solution does solve the symptoms (thanks!!), but a peek at
my xrandr output leads me to believe that the underlying problem may not
be gone.

Since this bug causes lower graphical performance, I have found that
passing "radeon.agpmode=4" as a kernel option through grub will force 4x
mode as a workaround.

When using KMS, "dmesg" shows that the radeon driver puts my 7500
Mobility in 1X mode instead of 4X mode which the AGP V2 bridge supports.
It used to default to the correct mode with 9.10. The problem originally
appeared on 10.04
