I've uploaded this change to wily. There is a possibility that there
might be a regression for some users with DPMS but I think that is less
severe than the effect on those who are left with the screen off. We'll
look at doing an update if upstream provides a fix.

When the X server exits, the screen turns off and doesn't seem to re-
enable. The system is still running (i.e. can SSH in).
To reproduce:
1. Log into a session
2. Switch to the greeter (using indicators or running "dm-tool
switch-to-greeter" from a terminal")
3. Log back in
This is because the DRI2 code in hw/xfree86/dri2 is no sufficiently
generic to be shared. Drivers rely on the symbols in the DRI2 code to
work, so splitting it out would require us to keep odd symbols around
and have to be very careful not to break anything.
I discussed this in XDC 2015 and people
I think holding a connection from libertine-launch to XMir is a good
idea - this is what LightDM does anyway for the X servers it spawns.

Yeah, it makes sense to me to just call xmir_output_handle_resize after
getting the mir_event_type_resize. I think we could definitely drop the
damage call as well - this will be done inside xmir_output_handle_resize
anyway.

XMir crashes when running with -rootless
To man
Can implement copy from Unity 8 to XMir with current libcontent-hub API, cannot
implement copy from X to Unity 8.
However, a new object will be implemented in libcontent-hub that contains
"pasteboard" specific methods that will need to switch to when it is
implemented.

The trigger is the X server resetting - this occurs when the last X
client disconnects. This causes the root window to be destroyed and re-
created. Thus the Mir surface is destroyed and then (attempted to be)
recreated.

Hmm, now I try more complex applications (e.g. gedit) it does seem to
crash for those still. So this is probably not the complete solution.

It seems to have been caused by a logic error that was only calling
CompositeRedirectSubwindows for windows without a parent. I couldn't see
any reason why this should be the case and calling this for all windows
seems to fix xeyes.

Reproducable by running:
(on VT1)
$ sudo mir_demo_server
(on VT2)
$ sudo chown $USER.$USER /var/run/user/$PID/mir_socket
$ XMir :1 -rootless &
(switch to VT1 then back to VT2)
$ DISPLAY=:1 xeyes
(XMir crashes)
The rootless code is kind of hacky, so I'd definitely use non rootless
mode until it's b
