I installed the kinetic beta this morning in VirtualBox VM
(6.1.38-dfsg-3). On the first boot after install, it got as far as the

My system does not seem to like the nvidia driver (I went with
nvidia-340). The display looked like crap, even after working with
nvidia-settings. This has happened before; I think 173 may have been the

If I remove /etc/X11/xorg.conf, everything is working fine.

Some way to dissable this alert would be great.

Same bug occurs on my desktop with a 8500GT, workaround works as well. I
do miss some functionality from unity 3d. Does not occur on my laptop
with a 8200M G.

Erm... fixed by removing nvidia-current and reinstalling while running
PAE kernel.
What I did in more detail:
Remove nvidia-current while running non-PAE kernel.
Restart with PAE kernel.
Log in without X.
Delete xorg.conf.
Start gdm and login.
Reinstall nvidia-current.
Restart with PAE kernel.
Sorry for the spam. Driver removal and reinstallation were done via

I'm on a ThinkPad X220 running Xubuntu 11.10 64-bit and can confirm that
the mic mute button does not respond, and the LED does not light up
either. Have not tried any of the fixes.

Nonexistent VGA monitor detected on AMD

manager prompt. (started with 10.10)
System will not shut down except via hard power button long press or term 'sudo
