DESKTOP_SESSION is created by the display manager.
In particular, SDDM puts an absolute path in DESKTOP_SESSION, which seem
to be quite distinct from what other managers are doing. I have opened
https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/852 about that matter.
However, the 60x11-common_xdg_path could be

Spoke too soon. Looks like the right click function still doesn't work,
otherwise it works much better. This is true in 12.04 and also in 12.10
before I stopped using that version. Will try to install 13.04 soon and
see how it works there.
I think this particular touchpad is common in many laptops
I reinstalled 12.04.1 precise and the tochpad works fine (unsure if it
took the updates or not.) So it looks like this bug can be closed.

Title:
Xorg process is eating my CPU cores in Quantal 12.10
Public bug reported:
Starting a couple of days ago, I notice the fan on my computer has been
constantly running hard. Doing a 'top' in a terminal shows that Xorg is
almost always at the top of the process list and almost constantly using
4% - 12% CPU. Looking at the system monitor shows both cores

Not a problem in quantal, the ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad works fine in
Ubuntu 12.10.

Title:
ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad
Another observation: when setting the ETPS/2 with 'synclient
Clickpad=1', you lose the setting when the computer shuts down. So you
need to add the command to the .bashrc file of every user who has a
desktop login. I think it is better not to place the command in
/etc/bash.bashrc, because you don'
Was able to get it working properly with synclient:
synclient Clickpad=1
But this is really something that should be detected during installation so it
will work "out of the box."

Public bug reported:
The touchpad works fine except when I use the left touchpad button to
try to grab and move a window the window doesn't move at all. Sometimes,
the window moves a tiny bit (a few pixels.)
The synaptics driver on my machine is: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

I'm having almost the same problem, with 12.04 Precise, for the ETPS/2
Elantech Touchpad, on a different ASUS laptop. The touchpad works fine
except when I use the left touchpad button to grab and move a window the
window doesn't move at all. Sometimes, the window moves a tiny bit (a
few pixels.)
I'm attaching a more detailed kernel log (using drm.debug=999 at boot)
of what's happening when using xrandr, in case it could be useful.

Same problem here: can't display both on the laptop screen and on an external
monitor. Laptop screen alone is ok; when plugging the external monitor with
VGA, I can only use that external monitor.
It used to work. Dell Latitude E5410, i915 driver.

Public bug reported:
Xorg crash unexpecedly every 2 or 3 days. I can't reproduce the bug by
myself, each time I was just browsing the web. After the crash, I get a
box which say that the X server is bad configured, and offer me to
reconfigure it. It doesn't work, and I have to make a hard reboot.
