I occasionally have the same issue. As already mentioned by Tom Lianza above,
for me the issue happens when I enter the client screen using Synergy. When the
issue occurs, I always observe the thin row of vertical triangles as mentioned
by clickwir.

After some more searching I've located what caused my problem. I had burg
installed (graphical boot) and it did not get updated so it just booted the 3.2
kernel instead of the 3.5 one installed by ubuntu 12.10.
Ofcourse this triggers a lot of problems :) Now that I booted the 3.5 kernel no
more
Same effect after purging nvidia leftovers and reboot, chrome is unusable.
Not sure about other programs, upgraded yesterday.

Same effect here when using chrome, mostly with videos.
Its an upgrade to 12.10 of a recent 12.04 install nvidia vidcard.
I haven't enabled the nvidia drivers yet, running the default nouveau after the
upgrade, i'll try purging whatever is left of nvidia pakages and report back.

I plug it , I launch a virtual windows in Virtualbox and i redirect the
pad to the windows... and then there is no mouse problem

Syncmaster BX2450L screen, capable of 1920x1080, has no such option when
connected through DisplayPort. I must use a lower (1440x900) resolution,
and my desktop on that screen stays black, i can only see the topbar.
Dragging windows into the black desktop hides them completely
Problem is still there on a clean 11.04 32-bit desktop install.

The exact same thing happens to me on a clean beta Natty with only
Vmware Player (version 3.1.4 build-385536) installed on top of that. It
is not persistent and I have not yet figured out what triggers it.
As told above, running 'setxkbmap' gets all the keys working again.

I'm having the same problem, using a specific tool in paraview 3.8.1
software. I'm using 10.10 with 2.6.35-24-generic with the latest i915
driver.
The problem occurs when using the slice tool in paraview and dragging

When I insert my Dell M2300 laptop in a Dell docking station, I get the
initial Ubuntu boot screen on the external monitor that is connected to
the docking station but when X starts the external monitor goes blank.
My solution was to add the followi

When I start my computer my resolution is 1024x768. I can't change this
to a higher resolution, this is the highest option I can select at that
time. As soon as I restart the computer, it goes to 1600x1200, as it
should.
