I talked to cnd in #ubuntu-touch, and apparently this is by design
because unity will use three-finger click for something.

I found a workaround. I installed the debian package for synaptics which does
not have some of the patches added.
Now I can tap and drag to select text, three finger for middle mouse button.

Hi!
I have a Asus Eee PC 901 as well and have noticed this bug. I actually
had it on natty as well when trying a 3.0 linux kernel, going back to
2.6.39 made the touchpad work as expected again.
I have attached the requested log files log files for both running 3.0 and
2.6.39.
