Again my apologies to everyone for hijacking this thread, But since
people are asking, and I was able to solve the backlight problem after
days of pain, here are the instructions. Two caveats though:

Since when? What I know is that modesetting doesn't provide VSync and
it's up to the DE to enable something to avoid tearing. From what I
understood from this merge request is that TearFree isn't ready yet. But
the Eoan package works just fine.

After a clean reinstall of 18.04 this issue still exists. I did notice

absent and I never got along well with tap-to-click.

disabling capture_before_unmap seems to fix the problem. Here's my quick
test:
- Open a Chrome window on virtual desktop 1
- Open a terminal on virtual desktop 2
- Do Ctrl-Alt-Shift-Left to move the terminal to desktop 1
With capture_before_unmap enabled the terminal window is not displayed

I'm also experiencing this situation. Sometimes this happens with multiple
menus, so the screen gets cluttered with all these "sticky" menus. I'm not
using desktop Visual Effects.

Hi all, the fact that the dash appeared in the "blank" area made me
think it could be a higher-level interface issue, so I tried logging in
in "Classic mode" -- and in that mode xrandr works well -- I do not have
this issue in classic mode. So I guess this is probably a bug with Unity

I have a ThinkPad X220T (convertible tablet) which has Intel graphics
as well. I have the same issue when I rotate using xrandr manually, or
with the screen resolution applet. The area of screen which is "blank"
is still usable by the dock and menubar, but does not seem to have
rotated properly.
