I also have confirmed the bug, it just happened right now, and here is
the crash dump for metacity.
It feels like gnome-session is trying to restart metacity too fast, when
waiting a few seconds before respawning it would avoid this problem...

I am really at the end of my patience here, my system is a E350 Sony
laptop (AMD/HD6300), it has happily been freezing continuously for the
past months almost daily, i tried everything, countless kernel
variations, reinstalls, fucked around with Flash, with the thermal.off
flag, manually installed

system, i started getting all kinds of splice errors on downloaded files and
even more crashing, spent my Sunday morning reinstalling the steaming pile that

I also tried installing Debian, but, can you believe this

I think I've the same issue: moving windows around is not smooth and has
a 1-2 second lag between window updates. The rest of the animations is
smooth. Also oneiric, nvidia proprietary driver and unity.

I think this should be marked as important for ubuntu's maverick
release. An xterm that looks this wrong on compiz which is now the
default, that doesn't cut it ;)

I just found a workaround: resize your window to a differente size at
least once and the problem goes away. You can even bring back the window
to the original size afterwards and it will keep working.

This screenshot shows several things:
The red and green rectangles show that the cursor artifacts change

The blue and yellow rectangles show that the window is missing two

The same bug is filed against xterm:

have the same issue with nvidia, so this either isn't an intel driver
bug, or it exists in both drivers…

I have this problem too. It goes away if I disable compiz though.
Metacity will make the xterms work fine. This could be a bug in compiz,
