I confirm that the problem is caused by the nvidia 270.41.06 drivers (and not primairly by konsole). I can reproduce it with kvirc and gimp by just resizing (or maximizing) them. The symptom is a hangup of the entire system or pixelated corruption of the screen (see the attached screenshot).

A workaround is to downgrade to nvidia-current 260. Unfortunately an ABI incompatibility requires also to downgrade to XOrg 1.9 and the whole process has to be done manually. Fetch the packages via wget (note that I'm using the x86_64 packages here: replace amd64 with i386 if needed) wget
