I have the same issue on Ubuntu 23.10 using VirtualBox 7.0.14 when using
i3. It doesn't occur when logging in using Ubuntu (Gnome).
The issue doesn't occur when enabling 3D Acceleration in VirtualBox (but
it slows down everything a lot).
Can also confirm uninstalling libva-wayland2 helps.

issue is not there anymore since i upgraded to the latest beta (uefi) bios u1l
supplied by gigabyte. have been running stable now for a few days:

i am using a 2730p too. I installed 12.04 and upgraded to the newest available
kernel and there isn't any flickering at my screen. The laptop has Intel
Graphics. I am using the vga output at 1080p and the laptop screen at the same
time without flickering.

perhaps you can update the driver using the third-party Xorg »edgers«
driver repository. It’s a so-called PPA (personal package archive). I
guess the Openchrome driver in there does not depend on a more recent
Xorg, so install without dependency error. I can’t check. But you’ll see

I also have this issue. I got Xorg and my drivers from Xorg edgers PPA.
Do you also use this unstable source? I don't use dual screen, only a
simple Thinkpad with Intel graphics. At first I thought it would only
trigger on special characters like apostrophe and pressing Enter later.

Perhaps it is "Tiling"? Not sure anymore. But not having this in was
problematic in some sense. I have nothing else in there.
