I get this kind of garbling as I mentioned. Affects tray icons,
Konqueror icons, Digikam thumbnails, Possibly all (KDE?) software.

It happens often but quite randomly. And might fix itself but might
happen soon again. Digikam was impossible to use after I got this error
there.
But I might still congratulate the Nouveau developers for doing an
excellent job! XRANDR support is what counts here the most for me.

How did you kill it? My Lenovo Thinkpad T500 supports selecting graphics

work by switching the actual hardware or by toggling it from bios. I'm
ok with asking the user to install another driver when the new card is
detected. I'm not ok with asking the user remove one driver to make
another card work.
Errors with my Intel card might have been different from this bug.
However, I got rid of them by removing restricted ATI driver packages.
So, in case some of you have restricted driver packages installed for
other video cards, I'd try removing them for a while, and reporting
back, if this fixed

I made some tests with *Jaunty*, as that is what I happen to have
installed on my systems.
On Jaunty the bug does not exist for ATI Technologies Inc Mobility

I moved to Kubuntu Karmic. It has never Nouveau driver. No more tearing
on the blank screen saver, and I haven't seen as much corruption as in
Jaunty. None actually if I remember correctly. And 1080p movies are
smoother than before (well, never VLC too, so).

Ok, as you can see from the remote bug watch, the problem is fixed in
the OpenChrome trunk. BUT I tried earlier the OpenChrome deb for Karmic
Koala and the problem was still present. So the fix has not been applied
there either.

resolution is right. But the performance is terrible! In Firefox
scrolling a page is sluggish and irritating, videos can't be played due
to the speed and glxgears gives 50FPS! It is unusable! Any ways to

Konqueror scrolls ok, and everything seems to work good enough in KDE.
Just FireFox and videos are taking a hit. I wrote to VIA but I seriously
doubt they'll provide any support.
