Yes, 8.04 LTS works properly with my TV displaying 1280x768 60 Hz
(Panasonic TH-37PX80EA).
Here is a kicker... The TV:s internal software is GNU licenced! :)

Just did.
First I waited until the login drum sound before turnig on the tv, there was a
breif popup saying 16:9 but I don't know if it was the tv or ubuntu. When I
logged in it was still in 800x600, display properties 800x600, 640x480.
Second I logged in with the tv still turned off and didn't

Same problem, hooked up my ibm think centre s50 to my 37" Panasonic TH-
37PX80EA 16:9 plasma tv. I got 1280x768_60Hz with 8.04lts but with 9.10
I can only choose between 640x480 and 800x600, 800x600 default.
With 8.10 and 9.04 the screen goes black just before login.
No xorg.conf to be seen anywh
