[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1300669] Re: X Server fails to start with nvidia-331 in 14.04

Thanks for your suggestion but bumblebee was not installed. However, after switching the driver to the nvidia-update Branch and the Destkop- Manager from GNOME to Unity, the problem vanished. So this might as well be a GNOME problem, thus i'm marking it as invalid. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu)

1.) Do you happen to have bumblebee installed ? Try to remove bumblebee with purge option. sudo apt-get remove --purge bumblebee* If it is not install check in folder /etc/modprobe.d for file bumblebee.conf. If exists delete it (contains blacklist option for nvidia) rm -f

how did you switch to the blob? The only supported way is via the driver manager which then configures the system correctly ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg

Actually i tried both ways. Switched via driver manager from Nouveau to Nvidia 331.38 (proprietary, tested) and since this did not work i tried sudo apt-get install nvidia-331 Both lead to the same behaviour described above. I'm stuck at the loading screen and no login screen ever shows up **
