Michael Vorburger, it will help immensely if you filed a new report with Ubuntu
by ensuring you have the package xdiagnose installed, and that you click the

Marcelo Fernandez, the next step is to fully commit bisect from kernel
3.13 to 4.4 in order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed
immediately by the first bad one. This will allow for a more expedited
analysis of the root cause of your issue. Could you please do this
following
Hello Christopher,
I've installed the nigthly from cod/tip/drm-intel-nightly/2016-07-11 on
July 12th, and after two days of work, this error appeared again:
Jul 14 08:22:33 marcelo-notebook kernel: [ 1035.024484]
[drm:intel_pipe_update_end [i915]] *ERROR* Atomic update failure on pipe A
Marcelo Fernandez, to see if this fixed in Intel upstream, could you
please test http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-
nightly/ and advise to the results?

Still don't know what triggers the error.
The last error log appeared just after I've unlocked the lightdm screen
lock. I'm using two monitors: the one in my laptop and an external one
(FullHD resolution) plugged through HDMI, nothing unusual.

Ok, today I have this error twice with 4.7.0-040700rc5-generic kernel:
Jul 7 10:01:24 marcelo-notebook kernel: [ 5823.037058]
[drm:intel_pipe_update_end [i915]] *ERROR* Atomic update failure on pipe B
(start=349135 end=349136) time 293 us, min 1073, max 1079, scanline start 1046,
end 1080

Ok, I don't know exactly what triggers this error... I think that Chrome
showing Tweetdeck or some big flashing-ad does it, because the screen
flickers/breaks a lot (and in Ubuntu 14.04 didn't)... anyway, now I've
installed 4.7.0-040700rc5-generic kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com

Marcelo Fernandez, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine
the issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest
upstream kernel available from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ? Please keep in mind
the following:
1) The one to test
Yes, I did upgrade directly to 16.04, from 14.04. In 14.04 I did not have
any issues.

Marcelo Fernandez, to clarify, for you personally (not someone else),
did you upgrade directly from 14.04 to 16.04?

I've upgraded from Ubuntu 14.04, and I'm sure that this issue wasn't
there.
But in the bug #1525390 the user said that was happening in 15.10, so it
seems to be affecting that version too.

Marcelo Fernandez, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.
To clarify, did this problem not occur in a release prior to Xenial?
