The attached files show that the kernel does indeed have an 'nvidia'
driver but it's not being used for some reason. And Xorg, as of Dec 11
at least, does not have any knowledge of an Nvidia card.
Please run:
lspci -k > lspci.txt
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
and attach the resulting text fil
I didn't note it here, but this issue does not occur on the Wayland
session. That's a different kettle of fish (Gnome crashes if add or
remove an external monitor, and when waking from sleep (but this also
seems related to if displays are connected)).

try using the 'Additional Drivers' app to install an Nvidia driver.
