I still have this problem on Ubuntu 15.10. Note that this version does not contain the xserver-xorg-video-sis anymore, but it does contain the sisfb module. Now the vesafb driver is loaded now, but it does not seem to be a module. I tried to use the instructions from this thread to load sisfb

This bug also affects Jaunty (9.04). Just did a clean install on my Averatec C3500 Tablet and the colors very very messed up. Much like the pictures @brettgraham had. Running xfix from the repair boot option did not fix the issue. Adding sisfb to /etc/modules did fix the issue however. Attached
