I have the same monitor ASUS VW202SR LCD, attached to a VIA K8M890.
With Ubuntu 8.04 I didn't have any issue using vesa driver (v1.3).
I ugraded to 8.10 and the default driver was a buggy openchrome, I forced the
vesa (v2.0).
It worked with an old kernel (2.6.24 from the previuos installation)
