uiberto, having compared the logs it looks like the bugs are a bit different.
In your case, it looks like the EDID information is wrong/misinterpreted. You
have lines in the log like:
(II) intel(0): Not using default mode "1440x900" (exceeds panel dimensions)
It looks like the "Supported addition
This is the Xorg.0.log when I set xorg.conf to use the "intel" device
drivers.

Hi,
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad SL-300 and am having nearly identical symptoms.
My laptop has a 1440x900 resolution display but Gnome only detects a
1280x800 display. I still cannot get 1440x900 to display in Ubuntu.
