I'm marking this as a duplicate of bug 412492. Could you test the kernel
linked to in comment #6 of that bug report and check if it removes the
flickering? If it doesn't, please unduplicate this report.

The complaints in that bug report are identical to what i'm seeing, but
the fix is for amd64. I have a 32 bit processor, so the fix won't work
for me. Perhaps Leann Ogasawara can shed some light on the

It's still very likely a duplicate. The fix (i.e. the change in the
source code) is independent of the architecture [1], but you're right
that the test kernel is only built for amd64 and I didn't see that
