I've switched laptops 2 (soon 3) times after reporting this bug.
I have no idea if it is still an issue, but it's not an issue for me on
my current laptop so I guess it's fixed itself.

Touchpad and mouse buttons not working after upgrade from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10
I have the same problem under 9.10, confirmed using kernel 2.6.31. My
Logitech MX518 mouse will start out working fine, but a couple minutes
later I will lose left-click functionality, and after that, the right-
click stops working.

Same here. I am running the appropiate kernel, no need to do the grub thingy.
I'm on a Toshiba Satellite U405-S2856.
Funny thing is, my touchpad was working this morning.

I have a very similar problem.
I was running karmic on 2.6.31 almost fine (evdev was as usual completely not
working so I used kbd)
yesterday it was working and now the xserver doesn't start with:

I also experienced this problem and also solved it by booting 2.6.31,
but I have a few notes which might help other people solve this problem:

Changing my menu.lst 'default' back to 0 fixed that issue also.
To everyone else confirming this bug on their laptops:
make sure that you are running the kernel of Ubuntu 9.10, not the one from 9.04.
Please run uname -a in the terminal.
If you see Linux .
I checked, and sure enough, I am booting into the old kernel from 9.05.
But grub doesn't list the new kernel. I went in and changed menu.lst and
nothing I do seems to have any effect on what is display at boot time. I
can edit the kernel name to boot, and boot into 2.6.31-14-generic, but a

OK, to continue my saga...this seems to have been caused by the (broken)
transition made from grub to grub2 with the coming of 9.10. I followed
the directions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Grub2 and was able to fix
things...and (so far) no crashes. But knock on wood.

Touchpad and mouse buttons
Same problem on Dell Inspiron 700m. If someone can tell me how to debug
mouse problems, I'll start working on it. But, I might just download a

fix this problem, real soon. I am posting this from my old Microsoft XP

need an answer please!
