By "trying to reproduce it there" I mean testing the kernels in http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and see if you can reproduce the tearing with any of them (since it didn't reproduce with rc8 and rc9). Since v2.6.31-rc9 does not have the problem, maybe it is in v2.6.31, v2.6.31.1 etc (

You mean the newest kernel, like 2.6.31-13-generic by "trying to reproduce it there" ? If so, the problem exist in the newer kernel. Sorry, not really understanding and kinda new to the whole ubuntu/linux thing. If this isnt what you meant, can you give me a step by step procedure? -- [i965GM] Sc

That means that it is triggered by a Ubuntu-specific patch to RC9. Could you try the newer mainline kernels and see if you can reproduce it there? I think some bug-fixing patches are pulled from more recent kernels and they could have shown up in the mainline kernel at a later stage. -- [i965GM]

It seems that the problem was introduced between rc8 and rc9 (see http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/info/kernel-version-map.html). Could you maybe check the mainline kernel builds from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and verify that v2.6.31-rc8 does not tear, while v2.6.31-rc9 doe
