Hi Rovanion
The default settings has been set by the upstream by a lot of thought
process. The default behavior or settings has to such that it covers a
majority of touchpads without any extra configuration and as of I know
there are many laptops that has a touchpad without multitouch support.
You are correct, it's not just the touchpads of the Synaptics brand,
which all support multi-finger gestures, that have their drivers in the
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package. Also ALPS touchpad which do not
support these gestures have drivers in this package.
Good that you have started to
You are welcome, Rovanion to ask for help or to file more bugs. I liked
talking to you in this issue. Also, we can be late sometimes but we always
try our best to attend all bugs that are filed in our bug tracker.

Ah!!
I thought that your scrolling areas are not correct but as you can still
experiance it in the current release, I think that this is not a bug at all.
Its rather a wishlist. If you can confirm that your touchpad scrolling areas
are all right like others, I can mark it into a wishlist.

Yes the scrolling areas on my touchpad, even tough they are just areas
as defined by the software, are correctly functioning.
This is a design-bug as the original description says, a request to
change the default behavior. Please do change to the correct label if it
is so that I mislabeled it.

Seems like this should be fixed in the upstream Ubuntu package. Tough it
seems like this bug has gone under the radar of the package maintainers.

I'm see this and several other issues. Is there a better upstream forum
for reporting this stuff? I can't find any reference to synaptics on
freedesktop.org or x.org. Apparently there is some GPL license issue
with the package.
I'd be willing to look at the code, but I can't find any reference
