I'm sorry, I was wrong. I just tried nouveau.modeset=1 and everything
worked! Thank you. I hope that nouveau will be updated soon with KMS
enabled by default.

I believe it's "nouveau.modeset=1", and I tried this with no success
(I'm not sure this option is even supported in the packaged version). I
don't see nouveau in xorg edgers ppa. I'd build it myself, but nouveau
kernel module doesn't have a "friendly" way to do it (they have a full
clone of linux k
Hm. The last thing to try before checking out new versions in the xorg-
edgers PPA would be to enable kernel modesetting, by adding
"novueau.modeset=1" to your boot options.

I'm sorry, I attached the irrelevant log (for previous kernel which is
booting fine). I was confused by modification time. The system freezes
after starting X with nouveau and file is not saved (I have to use the
reset button).
I tried to start X several times and it seems it crashes at random

I will provide Xorg.0.log later today.
No, I do have kernel headers installed. What surprised me, that I had to
manually invoke dkms to build nouveau for the latest kernel (for older
kernels it was built automatically). However, it was built and installed
without any errors.

Can you provide /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and/or /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old)
showing a boot with nouveau crashing your system? Do you have the
appropriate linux-headers package installed? My first guess would be
