Everything worked fine for me, but when my laptop completely lost power
due to a battery issue, I had no window borders after boot. I get the
same error messages when trying those commands. I'm running openSUS

So through some finangling, I finally got it bootable again. But it now
refuses to use video card, always using onboard video even when I have
the old xorg.conf.

The exact failure mode varies mostly by what video mode I set in my BIOS
(Auto, Internal, PCIe, or PCI). My video card is PCIe.

And now my system is broken in strange and horrible ways.
I moved off my xorg.conf, rebooted, and adjusted my BIOS.
After attempting to boot, the kernel printed out traces. At least, I'm
reasonably certain it's the kernel.
I restored the BIOS to the previous setting, and attempted to boot
again.
I can try that. Disabling my onboard graphics before has caused problems
booting up in the kernel.

Please disable your onboard graphics in bios and remove your
/etc/X11/xorg.conf, and after rebooting you should be able to activate
nvidia-current. that looks to be the issue here.

The bits about the SC4 touchscreen is from a userspace driver I've been
developing. It's for another system.
I didn't think I was using the nouveau driver. I wasn't before, it's not
in my xorg.conf, and jockey says that nvidia_current is "activated but
not currently in use."

the top of my head I'm guessing you are using nouveau and did not
activate the nvidia restricted drivers though, and I'd recommend
disabling the nvidia-current drivers in jockey and then reenabling them
and then rebooting just to
