Please update your Maverick install first:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
Then remove/backup your xorg.conf file:
sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak
(you can revert with 'sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak /etc/X11/xorg.conf' if you
need to)
And then reboot without any boo

Newest development: got it to boot to a live Gnome session by adding the
'xforcevesa' option to the boot parameters in addition to 'nomodeset'.
However, now I am restricted to 1024x768 :(
So, I got 10.10 Alpha 2 installed and I will run the apport-collect command to

alright, here is a report of everything that I can access from the live
Maverick Alpha 2 image:
boot options:
-expert mode
-nomodeset
try w/o installing
ESC out of boot splash, but I can't see any obvious errors during boot
low graphics mode warning
[Low graphics menu]
-> restart X -> b
Since you can open Xorg.0.log, I'm assuming you have a way to access a
terminal. Please run 'apport-collect 605667' after reproducing the bug
in order to attach additional debugging information to this report.

I tried booting the Maverick Alpha 2 image off USB and got it to show the "low
graphics mode" error, but it still fails to start X even in low graphics mode.
I opened up the X.org log and at the end of the log it says:
