This is some maybe-not-relevant info: I thought I had the same problem,
and while looking for solutions on the net I stumbled upon
https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/20830. Extrapolating the workaround
suggested there, I added
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
to /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-s
I have the same problem on my HP ProBook 4720s.
Xorg.log is identical.
