Another minor issue it also fixes is that in KDE when I go to logout it
fades the background out, that was getting some subtle corruption in
that fade out - also gone with that fix.

Hi Dave,
To update you on status... we'll be updating to a new X stack within
the next week or so, including new mesa and a new -ati driver. My bet
is that it includes a fix for this issue. RAOF is currently working on
uploading the stack to xorg-edgers for testing, but it may be a day or
so
