Windows 7 dual-boot.

And unity doesn't work.

I also have some problems, as others I have version 173 listed but not active
and the recommended is activated but not in use.
VGA card is 6200 Turbocache.If Firefox is running and I also open Thunderbird
then T'birds opening page is fine but if I then go to the write page then I get
a white scr
At least most of NVidia graphic cards support Nouveau. Anyways I'd like
to get this fixed, because Nouveau doesn't provide the whole 3D
acceleration.

Well, I tried running 173 and it failed just like the others (black
screen at boot).
In case anyone stumbles upon this thread that is looking for a fix for
this driver, there seems to be a dozen different ways to do it. The
easiest way seems to be this method:
Reboot Computer, hold down shift key
I found this thread when I noticed when running the Additional Drivers
app that I also see 2 selections. First one is titled "NVIDIA
accelerated graphics driver 173", the 2nd one is called "NVIDIA
accelerated graphics driver (version current) [Recommended]. It appears
that my card should work with

Receiving same issue. Different video cards, same end result. The
nVidia GT 260, GT 9500, GT 430, and GT 460 all come back with the same
problems. Install from 10.10 runs clean on 32 or 64bit after activating
the driver. Upgrade or clean install to 11.04 fails.

Clean installation with all updates of 11.04 on Dell XPS M1330 laptop
with nVidia 8400GS produces the same "activated but not in use" video

Ive been having problems with my geforce 7025 since moving up from 9.04.
FFirst if was with compiz hogging cpu and super slow graphics response.
Now I the white screen of display death. Id like to know if there are

It may be in use, but it works really bad with 3D-applications, like for
example, with games.
And Unity doesn't work with that driver, it just doesn't load.

Same problem. Fresh install of 11.04 64-bit. Using recommended,
current version NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver. "This driver is
activated but not currently in use." No hardware acceleration works;
neither the Unity desktop nor glxgears. Removing the NVIDIA additional
driver and going back

Just another "me too" to the pile; upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 on my P4
Shuttle X51 box and find that yet again, a ubuntu upgrade has broken
something -- they always do, every single one has broken something on my
system! As with all the others, I can run gnome2 and the Nvidia driver
