with, we'll have to close the bug for now. However please feel free to

@Kevin
That's a real shame; given recent announcements regarding Ubuntu on
tablet/phone/TV, this device would make a perfect showcase of what is _already_
possible on the tablet form factor today.

Hello all,
There are two bugs here:
1) 1024x576 resolution is not selectable by default in gnome display
properties.
This is coming from the EDID for the display. Unfortunately there is no
way to fix this directly and will have to be worked around, possibly by
issuing the commands in comment #4
I followed the steps in #4 and can confirm the exact same behaviour in
Oneiric, the screen blacks out when 1024x576 resolution is set using
xrandr.

available resolutions under Oneiric.

Issue still exists on Oneiric. The following resolutions are listed in
the Displays dialog:
1366 x 768 (16:9)
1360 x 768 (16:9)
1024 x 768 (4:3)
800 x 600 (4:3)

That's bizarre, I don't even think 1360x768 is a real resolution. That
is certainly still a bug.
Otherwise, Does the screen still blank out when you select 1024x768?

@jm-leddy #17
1024x768 is a 4:3 resolution which does appear in the Displays dialogue
and works as expected, i.e. there are large vertical black stripes on
both sides of the screen (since the screen itself is 16:9).
I presume you actually meant to ask does the screen black when 1024x576
When I was playing with this a hard reset (hold down on/off switch)
brought the system back to its original state.

Hey jagosta,
You filed this bug report against natty, but I see it's still open and
doesn't appear to have much activity recently. So, now that oneiric
is released and stable, this may be a good point for you to upgrade
and re-test if this issue is still present there.

I know longer own this system, but the unit is owned by Canonical and
now resides in the Milbank offices. Chris Kenyon has this system and is
using it for demo purposes. I know he had someone install Oneiric on
the unit. but I did not hear the results of that installation or
testing.

Cannot change screen
I think that the confusion on questions 10 and 12 can be explained as
follows: a smaller resolution results in bigger on-screen controls which
are easier to manipulate with a touch screen. I would be more than
willing to test possible fixes for this issue and other related touch
screen issues
Chris, probably is doable. Comment #4 is confusing, so why is 1366x768
too small, when you're trying to use an even smaller resolution? :)
Also, I don't understand why the touch can't be made to work with a
greater resolution. Looks like it's loading synaptics for the eGalax,
that can't be
ok, after a closer look it does load evdev for the tablet which is
better.

Regarding resolution question in #10.
The sensitivity of the Duo touch screen is not close to that on a phone.
Therefore, for a decent touch experience you need a larger resolution in the
16:9 ratio spectrum. Users of the Duo have found the 1024x576 resolution to be
a good middle ground. A
@Timo -- Mind taking a look at Bryce's update in Comment #6 to see if
this is something that we could sort out for Natty?

I have never loaded and booted an alternative kernel image before. I
know it has something to do with placing new kernel images in /boot and
selecting at boot-up via Grub. But, that is where my understanding
stops. I will need to research how to do this.

Cannot change screen resolution on Dell Duo in Natty
@Chris Van Hoof, looks like Dell omitted this 1024x576 resolution in the
EDID they're providing with this hardware model. Is that something one
of your kernel guys could easily quirk in? Then it'd work without all
this cvt madness.
@John, Regarding why the --addmode is resulting in a black
I realized that I failed to problem exact instructions to reproduce the
problem...
The default Dell Duo resolution is a 16:9 ratio and is set to 1366x768.
This is too small. You can use another preconfigured resolution of
1024x768, but this leaves large amounts of unused screen. Therefore,

@Chris, this was a fresh install. Others on the forums expressed the
same problems after an upgrade, but I wanted to keep this completely
clean, so I went with the new installation of Natty 11.04, and then
loaded all updates.
