Just talked about it with Jason, and I think this is a dupe of bug
771788 and thus a jockey bug (or nvidia-common). I'll debug it on
Jason's laptop next week.

Actually, looks like from your Xorg.0.log that you do in fact have
-nvidia installed, loaded, and (apparently) operational.
Is the problem past
He says he started noticing the corruption about 2 weeks ago. Looking
at dpkg.log no X/kernel/compiz changes occurred during that period, but
it did see a unity change.
