I can reproduce this problem on my Dell Inspiron N5010. If I shutdown my
laptop and leave it in a cold room for a few hours, then it freezes at

I have a similar problem. Though less severe. I seldom get my computer
hang with blank screen. However, my computer can't resume from a
suspend, it always ends up with the blank screen, besides that the
computer seems functional, I can reboot it by "Ctrl+Alt+F1", login, then
"sudo reboot".

This may be related to interaction with BIOS or the CPU's, KMS, etc.
This laptop has two GPU's. When I can successfully boot Ubuntu and
shutdown, on the next boot, I see a BIOS message (below). I never see
this message after shutting down Windows 7.
