Hi everyone, This is a question that has been bugging us since a long time now and needs an answer. Can we download *.pkg files from an IPS repository? This is absolutely necassary especially for university students like us where bandwidth is a major problem. We don't have resources to setup an

Angad, I am not too sure but this should be the one: You should set the repo server to opensolaris.org and you can download the pkgs. On the command line set: pkg set-authority=http://opensolaris.org opensolaris.org then you can use other pkg commands to install pkgs/distros. Best Regards, M

Hi Madhan, Installing packages using the "pkg install" command is absolutely fine. The problem here is to be download and archive the *.pkg (or whichever other format IPS uses) for later use (so that later I don't have to download the package again for installing and can install it from my local

Thanks for the replies. Creating a local DVD repository is close to a solution, but not the desirable solution. If its not already there this is a very essential feature which IMHO should be there.
