There's no reason why you can't use RIS as a launchingpad for your Unattended deployment. This eliminates the requirement to setup a separate DHCP, PXE and TFTP server. In fact, I've been doing it for several years now. With a little help from Argon's RIS Menu Editor (RISme), I use RIS to load

Yes, it can be done. If you use the /t:D: switch with winnt, it will default to install to drive D.On 8/1/06, Michael Hopkins <

Does the latest kernel support USB 1.1/2.0 network adapters?
If so, where can I find a list of supported adapters? Can parted or fdisk be used to create NTFS partitions?

Because Unattended uses DOS as the launchpad OS to start your Windows installation, using diskpart is not possible since diskpart is win32 app.
In order to use DISPART, you will need replace DOS with WinPE.
WinPE allows you to exploited with native XP environment. This makes it possible to p

Renaming the winnt.sif to unatttend.txt will not prevent the issue of being asked for partition size, formatting and replacing MBR. You will need to tweak the install.pl script.

If you use nLite, then you don't need an unattended server - just the unattended script files that you need.
I include all the unattended bin, scripts, and packages folders in the $oem$\$1 directory on the nLite CD. The primary unattended script file postinst.bat is called from the winnt.sif
Allan, you will need to install and configure a Samba server. You can find tons of information on Google. Here's one link you can try:
http://www.reallylinux.com/docs/sambaserver.shtml
FYI, Samba allows a Linux/UNIX machine to appear and behave like a Windows NT member server or primary doma
I have successfully combined nLite with some of the "borrrowed" batch scripts from unattended to build a customized XP installation CD. I encountered no problem other than the limited diskspace that CD provides - couldn't fit office 2003 onto the CD. Thank goodness for OpenOffice.
Anyway, a win
Unattended uses DOS and Linux to kick-off Windows installations. Neither is suitable to start a Win64 installation. Unless Unattended can use an NT-based kernel such as WinPE ( or something equivalent ) support Win64 will not be possible.

Argon Technology offers a product called Client Deployment Services (CDS). CDS runs WinPE within the PXE environment allowing you to perform scripted and ghost-based OS deployment. CDS, however, is not free.
I've been using CDS with unattended to perform all my Vista installation.Works greats!
I use Argon Technology's Client Deployment Services (CDS) to automate my Windows installation within the PXE environment.By using the PXELinux loader, I can easily initiate an "OpenRIS" installation using the unattended Linux option.
CDS allows me to overcome many of the shortcomings of RIS.
I'm using a mysql db to store computer settings for unattended installation. I wish to store the partition info in the mysql table but I don't know the exact syntax to do so. Unfortunately, the documentation for mysql setup is VERY limited.
Any ideas,-- Regards,Conrad Lawes
Call me lazy but I don't like having to re-invent the wheel. So, if anyone already has a web-based application - PHP or Perl - that I can use to interface with an unattended mysql backend, I would great appreciate a copy of your code.

Assuming that you're using the Linux version of unattended, this error message would suggest that your network adapter is not supported; i.e the Linux kernel does not contain a driver for the NIC.

If you're using the PXELinux loader, then you should be able to deploy both Window$ and Linux OSs be simply modify the pxelinux.cfg/default (or IPHEX) file.
