are being used with LVM on top. This could be an issue in terms of
lvm/dmraid/udev/device-mapper interraction. Need to attempt to reproduce

Simply open a terminal, then add command sudo before the name of the
file to execute. Before executing, you should check whether you have the
proper permissions or not (755 would be fine).
For instance:

That scanadf and scanimage work fine you demonstrated before, but if you
could check the output from scanimage.pl frontend when the scanner is
directly attached to the machine running Jaunty, we could see if the
problem is related to the net backend.

Maybe I didn't mention this, but the 2G of RAM fix also works with the
radeonhd driver. After trying the 1.2.5 driver from your PPA, i took out
2G of RAM (leaving 2G), and it worked. I took the Xorg.0.log from this

I was experiencing this exact behavior converting a set of wav files
(recently ripped from a CD). It turned out that the wav files themselves
had some issues related to 8.10. They only played in mplayer VLC, for
example.
After using sox to create new copies of the files and soundconverter
worked
