I tried this with a Live Karmic CD. Seems like the problem exists, since
the projector loses sync. Unfortunately, I do not have another screen,
and I cannot get in via the network to diagnose. Being a live CD, I do
not know how to change it so that I could get in and get the files you
requested.
The jaunty release provides a means for making a startup-usb stick with
persistence, your xorg file needed would
be in /var/log/Xorg.0.log and of course you can do dmesg
/home/ubuntu/dmesg.txt to get it. I believe that is ubuntu
live home. you could also use gmail docs and just paste from your
Well, next I'd like to forward this issue upstream, but first it must be
retested on latest development version of Karmic to make sure the issue
still happens there with the latest code. ISO images are available at
http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic/. If you can reproduce it in

FINALLY, after a year of suffering with vesa and no video playback,
happened upon a simple workaround to this problem which was originally
described for AE100 and works for me on AE700. The workaround is
described here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=536344
I used gtf 1280 720 60 to
Gerard: Sorry, I meant /etc/X11/xorg.conf (and mixed up the path with
/var/log/Xorg.0.log). Now that the description got a bit shorter, I see
that you included it there.

To Gerard:
Ok, so vesa is not working for you. You have a DVI connection on the AE500,
right? I have an AE700 with VGA and HDMI connections, so have to use an adapter
(have tried both).
To anyone interested:
I tried the Jaunty alpha live install on an USB stick. Worked fine on another

To Mikael: I tried vesa already and it seems to loose sync. If you want
any logs of what happens in that specific situation, please let me know
and I can generate some. As you mentioned, the vesa driver is not gonna
cut it performance-wise for me I am afraid :-(
To Geir: I attached (yes, quick
I had a similar problem on my eeebox with Mandriva 2009. My DVI monitor
worked fine but when I replaced it with a VGA monitor (with a VGA-DVI
adaptor) the new monitor did not caught any signal. After playing with
xorgcfg and xorgconfig without success, I finally booted with Knoppix
5.1.1 live usb
Thanks camel, but I tried your config (the relevant parts at least) and
the problem remains the same. Your config uses the vesa driver btw and
instead of a black screen I get the no-sync signal. No errors in the log
file though...

You can modify the Device section in /etc/X11/xorg.conf to include:
Driver vesa
I think this is the same as booting in Safe graphics mode, and gives you a
working desktop on Ubuntu.
Unfortunately, this bypasses the Intel driver and the B202 processor
alone is not sufficient to run a smooth TV
