There is a new version, 0.8.4.1. Maybe that one fixes this problem. See
http://goodies.xfce.org/projects/applications/xfce4-power-manager for
the release. But checking the changes, it might not do that.

This happens to me in couple of other desktop computers, but not in a
laptop computer; all running up-to-date karmic testing.

As a (partial) workaround, I use Jaunty's gnome-power-cmd script started
by a panel launcher.
