I'm running my HP Thin Clinet with FreeNAS installed on a 32Mb SD card
USB.
Initialy I had 256Mb ram - with the system running OK, but after
upgrading to 512Mb (max for my the Thin Client) coverarts loads much
faster - I expect because the RAM disk is bigger. I have a 250Gb HDD

Under Unix (and Linux) /home/usr/Music and /home/usr/music are not the
same directory--it is case-sens

Has anyone had success setting up SqueezeCenter (as opposed to
slimserver) up on openSuse 10.3 yet? If so, what startup scripts do you
need, if any?
TIA,
Jim

One thing that occurs to me for those with limited memory is to go into
the BIOS and reduce any memory reserved for the display to a minimum.
The name will vary with the BIOS - the on I'm looking at calls it
"onchip vga frame buffer size".
Warning: Don't set it to "none". You lose the display!

I haven't tried with only 256MB but 512MB works fine for me using CF.
My memory usage currently shows as:
Mem: 122M Active, 221M Inact, 74M Wired, 16M Cache, 54M Buf, 1000K

to nearly 100MB. It looks like I would be able

I like it better on *nix when running headless and without a GUI.
There's no reason to have it if you are administering it from a web
interface anyway :)

My Celeron 600 has 256mb ram and boots off a hard disk currently (board
doesn't support boot off of usb and I don't have a spare cf and adapter
to test with). I have about 70% ram used when system is up and running
and SC is running. CPU peaks when I browse to the library from the
controller, but

I did consider that but I am running FreeNAS, SlimNAS etc from the 2nd
partition on the CF (ad0s2). Probably not a good idea to
Not sure why you would need to re-install at all, but try this first:
> sudo /etc/init.d/squeezecenter restart
If that doesn't work then:
> sudo apt-get --purge remove squeezecenter
This will remove your config files as well. Then re-install with:
> sudo apt-get update
> sudo apt-get install
As your playing with linux did you start the firewall/ or is it on ?
I'm also a Linux noob so i find it easy to mess with firewall with
something called firestarter which you can get trough synaptic.
As I understand it port 9000 and 3483 should be open maybe 9090 as well
? ( a search can show up
Down rev'ed to slimserver 6.5.3 seems to have resolved the problem.
Anyone know what changed in 6.5.4 that would have caused the problem of
not being able to "clear and rescan". Thanks

I been running Squeezecenter for a wile on Ubuntu 7.10 server. I run it
24/7 so I wanted to get a motherboard that did not take a lot of power.
I got a Mini-ITX one with no fans. It don't have the same chip set.
After I got the Ethernet to work I uninstalled Squeezecenter with:
apt-get autoremove

There's a complete documentation about the CLI in SC:
http://yourserver:9000/html/docs/cli-api.html
Just connect "telnet yourserver 9090" and start typing your comma
Hi
I was wondering if any one has any scripts on how to manage a player vi
squeezecenter with a perl script (or telnet or expect).
I want to set the off screen saver for squeezebox to blank at night
time and turn it back on to date time during the day

Thanks for the tip!
I've added a section to the wiki about permissions to help others
(under 'Note: Linux / UNIX file and directory permissions'):
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?BeginnersGuideToOrganising
Could someone read through it to check it makes sense and is correct?
