Same with me, it was apt-get and joy, except for some of the wilder
builds I've been beta testing.

Just to throw my 2c into the pot, I'm running an Ubuntu 8.4 headless
server and SC7.2 installed perfectly via apt-get, except for the
apparmour issue which is fairly easy to work around. Default perl,
mysql, etc.

My SqueezeCenter is running on Debian Etch (32 bit) and has been happy
for ages.
The perl on it is 5.8. Works great. I would not recommend changing it.
On other machines, I've tried to get perl 5.

Problem solved. Here's what i did:
1) installed mplayer as per the instructions found at the following
link:
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/install-mplayer-and-multimedia-codecs-libdvdcss2w32codecsw64codecs-in-ubuntu-804-hardy-heron.html

Recently, I noticed that my library under SlimServer 7.X was doubled.
When I chose to "clear library and rescan", it would clear out half of
the library (all of the dupes) and then rescan which would add back in
the duplicates.
I upgraded to SqueezeCenter, and it has the same problem. I'm

Thanks for letting me know.
I quite understand that AMD64 offers a whole lot of other issues!!
Thanks for your assistance to this point and I will just see if I can
get to the bottom of things on my own, unless I can get assistance from
elsewhere.

I'm sorry for the delay - the forum<->mail gateway seems to be broken.
Your message didn't make it to me, and mine didn't make it to the
forum.
In a nutshell: I'm not going to support SlimNAS on AMD64 any time soon,
surely not before FreeNAS 0.7. I'd currently have to provide no less

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to support AMD64 before FreeNAS 7.0 is
released and the main, stable branch. They currently have too many
branches, I can't support all of them. Sorry about that.

i don't know how to check the amount of free space on the flash drive.
If you tell me, i'll check it. You can also just try. I downloaded the

I have done a full library refresh, but that hasn't change the problem.
As an additional note, I've noticed that it is not just AAC files, but
also MP3s.

We're running all sorts of *NIX distros here just fine.
"an absolute nightmare" doesn't really tell us much about your
problems, if you need help debugging a setup.

I recently used Upgrade Manager on Ubuntu 8.04 to update Squeezecenter

I noticed that it no longer had any of the "artist" information for my

Can the Unix version of mplayer decode mpc files -> to LAME?
Does anybody have the convert.conf code to do this?
Thanks.
