Apologies, Christian, it might just have slipped due to the many posts
here. No offence.
The "new way" you use seems to be the Good Thing: SC on Linux -should-
be run in "UTF-8 mode", i.e. setting the system charset to (your local)

Triode knows more about the inner working of SC so I'd trust his
opinion.
I believe the issue is not the decoding but something about the
processing associated with the handling of Napster to get trackinfo,
next track and assumptions may have been made about how to set up the
player which may not
Thanks. I've been entering some podcast feeds here lately and saw a
little strangeness in the user interface. I thought permissions might
be the issue in this case and possibly other places I just hadn't
visited yet. I can't seem to delete one of the feeds without all of my
added feeds being de

Hmmm. Not sure about that. Am I wrong in the following 3 assumptions?
Still thinking the SB1 should

WMA losless playback. Here is the procedure I used to test VortexBox
with WMA losless.
1. Put an Audio CD in my Windows machine
2. open widnows media player and select rip
3. click format and select "Windows Media Audio Loss

Sorry to be so ignorant of Linux but I am using Classic FTP and can't
connect to the Kurobox even though I can telenet in to the same IP
address. When you say FTP is not turned on is that on the Kurobox. If
so, is there a co

If it brought in 30 packages when you only wanted to reinstall the
"top-level" Encode::Detect it suggests that you've got older packages
that have not been updated recently.
Have you run an "emerge -D world" (deep) and a "revdep-rebuild" (from
the gentoolkit package)? I can't say for certain but t
Thanks for your reply. Somehow I have locked myself out. I can connect
to my HG via Putty but can not connect via FTP to transfer the tarballs
over to the box. I looked at hosts and hosts allow but do not see
anything that would prevent this since I have the right IP address.
