I use Ubuntu (desktop) and disable many of the services. It installs on
barely 4GB. Ubuntu also has a stripped down server edition.
I have played around with every Ubuntu release, but going forward will
stick to long term support releases. My SB server runs 8.04 (duh see my
sig), "downgraded from
7.4.2 of today didn't start for me too on Ubuntu Jaunty. Downgraded to
stable in the meantime.

Thanks Pablo. I've found the fstab file, and tried some of the things in
some of the above posts, but none seem to work.
If anyone has an idiot-level guide to what I should be doing, I'd be
grateful.

Replying to myself here. Just after my last post, I found the cause and
remedy for the appender error in 'another thread'
Simply removing the empty file prefs/log.conf made the error go away.
I'm quite confused by this, however,
I have the same problem. Was running fine on ubuntu 9.04.

Its almost a cult with the folks who support/commit. Mak
In spite of moving to 7.5 I continue to have issues with Squeezebox
server and DNS on my Ubuntu 8.10 box. Like others I get the dreaded
"can't resolve IP address" for my various internet radio stations. If I
restart the Squeezebox server once I'm in this condition, no issues at
all.
It seems that
I think debian's reputation for stability is a bit overrated. They did
accelerate their update cycles, but when a stable gets really old (not
the case right now, lenny is still young), you end-up mixing stable with
testing or unstable, and that's not really what you want.

I get this as well since a few months. It doesn't matter if I run the
server directly or through the rc-file, with or without

This wasn't one of the choices you offered, but how about choosing an
earlier version of Ubuntu? I've been running 8.10 as my SB server
machine for almost a year and it is very stable and reliable, as were
other versions before that. I also run 9.04 on one non-server machine.
Or you could go back
Hi,
I'm planning to move my existing Squeezeboxserver/Ubuntu-Karmic into a
more stable server environment, such as FreeBSD or Debian.
Apart from the Squeezeboxserver, I also have a webserver, Samba,
DNS/DHCP and local email services running.
Now I'm looking for advice, considering the operation/
I see the same thing (Fresh install of Debian lenny).
