my /etc/apt/sources.list has the following line:
deb http://debian.slimdevices.com stable main
I didn't get any more recent upgrades after 7.7.3.
Does that line need a change?

Yes that version is the last official version from Logitech, subsequent
versions are community supported.
I can't help with the source to add as I usually wget the deb file and
install manually with dpkg.

Is it all about editing the line in /etc/ap/sources.list with
"nightly"?
or have I got to remove --purge and reinstall with dpkg?

Dunno I just download with wget and install with dpkg and it upgrades
the existing installation but my server is headless (well it runs on a
Joggler with Spueezeplay running full screen)

sorry for a strange question, some things might be so basic, that they
are mentionen nowhere. I searched this thread for 'Username', 'Pass',
'Login' and a few other words, read the first 10 pages but no
indication, how to submit a squeezeboxservers login credentials.

I guess 7.9 might be elsewhere then, actually I do recall there being a
different repo address mentioned in one of the many 7.9 threads now you
mention it.

Think you might be right after a quick search. Looks like the dpkg
method it is then.
My workflow is
Go to the address above and right/long click on the .deb download link,
select copy link address
wget
sudo dpkg -i
That's it, easy peasy. This stops the existing service, upgrades and
restar

Thank you for your script. I 've adapted it a little for my purpose. a
crontab runs the script every 15 minutes. is the script called 10 times
and the player will still on status "play" then i restart this player.

I just loaded picoreplayer 1.17a on my Raspberry Pi B and I can not for
the life of me get the analogue 3.5 audio out to work. According to the
picoreplayer website it should work out of the box. I can get the audio
over hdmi to work but I would really like the 3.5 analogue audio jack to
