png are mostly big files. PNG or JPG doesn't really matter: important is not the file size, but the number of pixels x color depth. 1000x1000 might easily be only a few hundred kB in file size, but it's 3MB in memory (24 bit colors). Therefore it doesn't really matter whether you use PNG or
