Glad you like it. The kernel continues to evolve, there are many sound
system changes in the 4.9 kernels. Some of those patches would have
been backported into the 4.4.39 Audio kernel..now they are in the
default kernel.
Take a look at the plugins for LMS. Then you wouldn't have to change
your players.

I used the hot fix and continued with the in situ update. No problems
and the connection to my WiFi dongle fired right up. RPi3 with
HiFiBerry Digi+ hat, TP Link WiFi dongle, Adafruit 5.25V 2A power supply
with Monoprice USB power cable with ferrite core. piCorePlayer 3.20

As you mentioned 'not an apple household' I assume you use an android
phone.
Still these phones can transmit to airport receivers, like is emulated
with shairport in PCP.
So just turn on shairport on the tweaks web page ( advanced as min level
) and get an app like allconnect to

Thanks for a nice streaming client, that piCorePlayer is! SUperor to all
other fancy GUI open source stuff.
One question: Can you please include the shairport-sync.config in the
distribution per default, and move the command line param config into
there. In this way, we have the
FYI piCorePlayer 3.20 is out now and 3.x has been around for a long time
- so you might want to try a new SD card with that and see if it
resolves your problems as I doubt that pCP 2 will be getting significant
attention.
