When I have built Jivelite on systems from git I've always had to redirect jivelite display (over ssh) to my windows machine and set a skin that is the resolution of the "local display" to the jivelite before jivelite will work OK Not sure if this is the problem you are seeing Jeff *Players:

Good. First let's go back and try using the libts extension from pcp 3.5 that was reported to work with the waveshare screen, albeit a different model. You'll need to install the libcofi.tcz extension from the webgui as well, since the older libts requires it but the latest one does not. https

pCP was only a player at the start ... and when used that way, everything is loaded into memory when it starts up and it does not write back to storage unless you do something that initiates a backup. So - for that sort of setup it is OK to pull the plug out without doing a "power off"/shutdown.

If you listen to music all the time, just leave it powered up. Otherwise, there are plenty of ways to shutdown the system. You can interface a button with GPIO. Press the shutdown button on the interface. Some automation can make an http call which can fire the same link that the shutdown but

The off button on the players have never shut off the system. LMS is designed to run all the time. If you are running jivelite, there is a shutdown in the piCorePlayer applet. Otherwise, yes, there is a shutdown on the pCP web page. piCorePlayer a small player for the Raspberry Pi in RAM.

Thanks to Ralphy and Jeff I got a little further. I set the framebuffer and deleted the .jivelite folder but same thing happened when I started jivelite, splash screen and that's it. Next I enabled logging and changed the skin file that Jeff indicated in his post to HD_GRID_SKIN_1080 - Bingo!
