Keep an eye out for any message relating to the GD library.
You may then need to install libfreetype6 or libgd-gd2-perl.

You should be able to keep your settings, but you'll need to remove then
install. At one point the version numbers were such that a 'upgrade'
would not accept the stable version as newer than the testing/nightly
versions.

The ubuntu/debian problems were in beta. The release version has always
been solid... really solid.
