I think the error message is misleading as I can't find anything wrong with the access to the files at all. There's no SELinux or AppArmour and just to fully mitigate the problem while testing I've set permission to 777. The scanner has absolutely no problem in seeing them on any of the systems

After failing to update to SC 7.2 on Fedora 8, I've moved back over to my Fedora 9 box which is running SC 7.1. The controller copies an update, presumably to downgrade from the 7.2 version to 7.1 again. Once the Receiver and controller are both happy again with their respective updates I'm able

I don't think the answer to your question will be of much help for you. Lots of folks run SqueezeCenter on one of the currently big distros such as Fedora, Suse, Debian, Ubuntu. In addition there are also a whole bunch of various NAS'es (which are usually based on some minimal Linux installation).
